The mission of the Office of Student Conduct is to:

  • protect student rights
  • help foster a safe and secure educational environment
  • uphold the standards of the university community
  • establish accountability for student choices
  • maintain an equitable and inclusive process that promotes mutual respect
  • foster ethical standards and critical thinking and decision-making
  • assist in the development of students into productive citizens


In order to help fulfill its mission, the Dean of Students Office performs the following necessary functions:

  • Adjudicate alleged cases of student misconduct in a timely manner
  • Administer formal and informal sanctions for violations of the Code of Student Conduct
  • Utilize various media to educate students, staff, faculty, and other community members
  • Advise students on their rights both as students and as citizens of the Mississippi State University community
  • Facilitate conflict/dispute management
  • Address issues concerning student's educational records in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines
  • Serve in an educational/consultation role for staff and faculty
  • Provide assistance to students accused of violations
  • Increase outreach services regarding drug and alcohol offenses, sexual abuse offenses, and academic integrity in conjunction with other departments on campus
